Who’s Eligible
Main Applicant
Must be at least eighteen years of age. Must have made an investment in the prescribed amount. Must meet other application requirements.
Permitted dependent
- Spouse
- Children, biological or adopted, of the main applicant or of the spouse, if under the age of 18, disabled and dependent upon the main applicant or spouse.
- Unmarried children, biological or adopted, of the main applicant or of the spouse under the age of 26 in an educational establishment, and dependent on the main applicant or spouse.
- Dependent parents of the main applicant or of the spouse over the age of 65.
Siblings
The brother or sister of the main applicant or his/her spouse are allowed under the following circumstances:
- The sibling is handicaped and the applicant is the tutor
Qualifications and Investment Options
To qualify for citizenship, applicants must fulfill one of the investment options below in addition to the following criteria:
- Not has been refused a visa from another country that Portugal has a visa-free agreement;
- Be of excellent health;
- Have a sufficiently high personal net worth;
- Make a qualifying investment;
- Hold no criminal record.
Research Funding
Investing €500,000 or more in research activities carried out by public or private scientific research institutions.
Venture Capital Fund Investment
Making capital transfers of €500,000 or more for participation units in venture capital funds, as long as the funds have no real estate ties.
Cultural Heritage Support
Investing €250,000 or more in support of artistic production, recovery, or maintenance of national cultural heritage.
Costs
To qualify for residency, applicants must fulfill one of the investment options below in addition to the following criteria:
Making capital transfers for participation units in venture capital funds, as long as the funds have no real estate ties.
*In addition to the Venture Capital Fund investment there are also processing and due diligence fees to be paid.
Investing in research activities carried out by public or private scientific research institutions.
*In addition to the Research Funding Investment there are also due diligence and processing fees to be paid.
Investing in support of artistic production, recovery, or maintenance of national cultural heritage.
*In addition to the Cultural Heritage Support there are also due diligence and processing fees to be paid.
Invest into a commercial company investment for the incorporation of a commercial company with headquarters in the national territory or increasing the share capital of an existing company.
